Beautiful
things
leave
marks.

Some things stay.
Some things disappear.
Everything leaves a mark.

Make yours a good one.

02 - The Idea, the Story Behind the Shirt & the Shirt

Beautiful things
leave marks.

People. Moments. Places. Love. Loss. A good day. A difficult one - they all leave something behind.

And sometimes the smallest marks are the ones we remember most.

Why do we
leave marks
in life?

Sometimes it's the grand gestures. Sometimes it's the small moments of everyday life that stay with us.

With this shirt, we want to make a statement: raise awareness for ALS - and celebrate the life and impact of our mom.

The story started
with a stain.

Before our mom's illness progressed, she was still able to eat more independently.

She would spill things.

A little sauce.
A drink.
Something on her shirt.

Tiny stains. Completely ordinary.

At the time, they were just part of everyday life.

Today, those small marks mean something very different to us.

They remind us of moments that once seemed completely normal. Moments we would give almost anything to experience again.

The Design

The design tells a story of love, memory and enduring marks.

The Front

Beautiful things
leave marks.

The print stands for everything our mom has done in her life - with a radiance that rubbed off on the people around her.

It carries the message: when we do good, help others, or bring love into the world, it doesn't fade.

It stays in the memory - and in the hearts - of the people we've touched.

Our mom has left a great many wonderful marks - and she is still leaving them.

She volunteered at church, helped refugees and welcomed them into her home, organized hockey tournaments, was always there for our family and friends - and somehow still found time to bake a cake, plant flowers, or take the dog for a walk in the woods.

She did all of this with a lightness and positivity that was truly remarkable. We sometimes wondered how many hours her day actually had. Somehow there always seemed to be time for one more thing, one more person to help, one more idea to put into action - and she never made it look like a lot. She simply got on with it, usually with a smile, a good laugh, and that wonderful energy that made everything seem a little easier.

And even throughout her illness, she continued to radiate that same positivity. She faces each day with a warmth, strength and lightness that we deeply admire.

To this day, she enriches our lives and the lives of so many others with her kind, warm and always cheerful nature. And knowing her, she is probably still finding ways to make a difference - somehow, somewhere.

Make yours a good one.

A call to all of us: make your marks good ones.

But the shirt was never meant to belong only to our story.

Everyone carries something.

A person. A memory. A difficult chapter. A dream. Something they lost. Something they are fighting for.

This shirt started with our story.

What it means to you is yours.

03 - Our Story

Four siblings.
One family.
A year that changed everything.

This is us - together with our mom.

We are four siblings who grew up in Berlin.

About a year ago, our mom named Caro was diagnosed with ALS. Since then, our family’s everyday life has changed completely.

Our mom lives with bulbar-onset ALS, a form of the disease that can affect speech, swallowing and other functions early in its progression.

We quickly learned how differently ALS can affect people - and how profoundly the disease changes life not only for the person diagnosed, but for everyone around them.

There is no cure for ALS. And while we can’t change what is happening, we can be there for her - spend time together, make the most of the good days, navigate the difficult ones, and simply be there for our mom as much as we possibly can.

Still, there is a lot of helplessness in knowing that we cannot simply fix the thing we would give anything to fix.

But we don’t want to just “stand by and watch”.

We want to share her story - and yes, we have her full consent - and turn some of that helplessness into action. We want to raise awareness about ALS, create a space for people who want to help but simply don’t know how, and hopefully help others who are facing a similar fate.

We cannot change the diagnosis.
But we can decide what we do with it.

So we created Beautiful Things Leave Marks.

To tell our story.
To help ourselves find a way to navigate all of this.
To raise awareness.
To support our family.
To help other people affected by ALS.

And most importantly, to give something back to our mom. She has spent her life doing so much for us and for so many others. If anyone deserves a little something back, it’s her.

We decided
to leave a mark
of our own.

04 - Where the Money Goes

Your donation.
Your mark.
Real support.

Donations to this project support two areas.

Area 01

Our family

ALS comes with challenges that go far beyond the diagnosis itself. Care, assistance, equipment and everyday support can create significant costs that are not always fully covered by health insurance.

The €2 contribution from each shirt may help cover part of the necessary care-related expenses our family faces - but it does not cover all of the costs that arise and are not covered by health insurance. Depending on our Mom’s needs and the expenses we face, the donations may therefore contribute toward care, assistance, equipment or other everyday necessities.

The donation may also be used to fulfill a small wish, create a special moment, or simply do something nice for our Mom. Our goal is to use the donations where they can make her everyday life a little easier and bring her comfort and joy.

Area 02 - Zoubi Foundation

Four siblings.
Four brothers.
One shared mission.

The foundation was established by four brothers whose own family has experienced the devastating impact of ALS. Drawing from their personal story, they are committed to raising awareness, supporting people and families affected by the disease, and advancing the fight against ALS.

As an already established foundation, the Zoubi Foundation has built a strong network and valuable connections to organizations, initiatives and projects working in the field of ALS. This allows us to support meaningful projects through an existing and trusted structure, and to ensure that a significant part of the donations can directly contribute to initiatives that make a difference.

05 - ALS

What is ALS?

01
What it is
ALS stands for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. It is a progressive neurological disease that affects the nerve cells responsible for voluntary muscle movement.
02
How it progresses
ALS can progress very differently from person to person. Symptoms and progression vary. Our mother has bulbar-onset ALS, which often first affects speech and swallowing - but ALS can present in many different ways.
03
Why it matters
There is currently no cure. Research, awareness and support for affected people and their families therefore remain extremely important.

This website shares our family's personal experience and is not intended as medical advice.
